Dong Van Karst geopark

Located in the northernmost part of Vietnam and covering an area of 2,345km² of the entire four northern districts of. Ha Giang Province (Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac), the Dong Van UNESCO Global Geopark has been recognized as the first Global Geopark of Vietnam since 2010.

With limestone covering more than 60% of the surface area at the average altitude of more than 1,000m asl, the Dong Van UNESCO Global Geopark is famous with deep canyons, steep cliffs, sharp summits, rugged stone forests and stone deserts etc. the grandiose breath-taking landscapes that make one aware of his/her lot in front of Mother Nature. Here one can discover and understand the fascinating story of the last more than 500 million years of Earth’s history.

Known as a “thirsty land”, the Dong Van UNESCO Global Geopark is home of 17 ethnic minority groups (Mong, Dao, Tay, Nung, Giay, La Chi, Lo Lo, Pu Peo etc.). All of them are famous with traditional cultures imbued with enriched identity. The Geopark is also a world of biodiversity, with many plant and animal species endemic for a tropical to subtropical and temperate karst area.

The Dong Van UNESCO Global Geopark can be visited easily through its 4 discovery routes. Each route has its own personality and they are all complementary to provide visitors with excellent opportunities to discover the Geopark as well as its partners and local population. Each of these routes can be experienced, with guide, in one or two days.
